What New Bern's climate asks of a vinyl panel
New Bern's July mean of 80°F is well below what a dark vinyl panel can reach in direct sun, which is part of why manufacturers warn about nearby heat sources.
January's 45°F mean, on the other end, is cold enough that a crew has to widen fastening clearances to keep panels from cracking.

Before you sign, ask about the panel itself
- What thickness, in mils, is this panel, and does it carry an independent ASTM D3679 certification listing?
- Is this standard vinyl or insulated vinyl, and if insulated, what R-value is certified under ASTM D7793?
- What wind-load rating is the product certified for, in miles per hour, and how does that compare to {county}'s wind risk?
- Will the installer leave the manufacturer's specified expansion gap at trim, corners and openings, or nail tight?
- If the color is a dark shade, is it separately certified for color retention?
- Does any wall face reflected sunlight from a neighboring low-E window, and has that been accounted for in the material choice?
